The Alexandra's experience doesn't end when you purchase your dress.
Fittings and alterations can be a stressful part of the bridal process and our expert seamstresses and customer service will make the process easy and comfortable every step of the way. We want you to be at ease and the following is a quick guide on what to expect in the alterations process.Alexandra's offers alterations as a standard package and only for bridal gowns that are purchased in store. We have a limited number of appointment slots available and we recommend booking an appointment as soon as your dress arrives. You can book an alterations appointment over the phone by calling 508-679-8770 on Tuesdays and Thursdays or filling out the alterations request form on our website. During peak wedding season, April through October, we do reach capacity so please book as early as possible.
Our bridal alterations package will include everything you will need to make your dress fit and feel amazing. Your dedicated seamstress will properly adjust your dress in the bust, waist, bodice and hips so that it will contour to your body like a glove. Your seamstress will also ensure the hem is the perfect length to walk and dance on your big day! Your package will also include a bustle for your dress - this will ensure your train stays safe and secure throughout your whole reception. Once your dress is finished to your satisfaction it will then go through our full quality control check to make sure that all of your beading and lace is secure and in place. Finally, your dress will be steamed, pressed and placed on a padded bust form to be ready for your wedding!
Our bridal alterations package costs seven hundred and ninety five dollars ($795) and includes everything that was mentioned with the attention to detail and customer service that Alexandra's is known for. Anything in excess of the bridal alterations package will be offered for an additional charge and bridal alterations services are not sold separately.
Fitting Process
First Fitting
(1.5 to 2 months before your wedding)The seamstress will discuss with you what your desired outcome is, and then usually pin the top--side seams, straps--pin the hem, and make any other adjustments needed for a perfect fit. These alterations won't be permanent yet. Our seamstresses will make easy-to-remove adjustments that allow you to try on your dress again at the second fitting.
Tip
Please bring the shoes and undergarments you plan on wearing on your wedding day as these items can change the fit and hem of your dress.
Second Fitting
(About 3-4 weeks before the wedding)Your dress will be lightly sewn according to the first fitting and you will start to see the true fit of your wedding dress. These alterations at this point are not permanent but are set with threads that the seamstress is still able to adjust the dress. We will pin any other areas that are required to improve the fit and review bustle options.
Third Fitting
(About 1-2 weeks before the wedding)You'll meet with your seamstress to make sure everything looks great! If you have a bustle, now's the perfect time to invite the family member who will bustle your dress so they can learn how. We will schedule a pickup appointment for you during this time and collect payment.
Bridal Pick-Up
(Week of the wedding)Your dress is finished and is ready to go! You won't have to try it on again unless the gown was pinned for fit at the third fitting and you want to try it on again to be sure. When you arrive your dress will have been pressed and steamed, the bead or lace checked, and then beautifully placed on a bust form for easy transporting.
