There’s something special about a man in a tuxedo, especially when the tux he is wearing fits properly. Here are some basic tips for fitting a tux properly:
- Buttons – For tuxedo jackets, remember “always, sometimes, never.” Always button the top button, sometimes the middles, and never the bottom.
- Sleeves – The general rule is 1/4″ of the shirt cuff should peek out below the suit sleeve when your arms are down and relaxed.
- Jackets – When your arms are down and relaxed, the bottom of your sleeve should be about 1 inch above your knuckles and the shoulder seam should be exactly where your shoulder ends.
- Pants – Hem length can depend on how you like your pants to fit. For pictures, the best length is when the hem of your pants has a slight break (if any) and touches your shoelaces.
Overall, make sure you find a reputable resource for your tuxes and give the shop plenty of time to make alterations as needed.
