Men who own their own tuxedos have little doubt that their suits, fitted by a professional tailor, look good. The same confidence does not necessarily apply to rental tuxes. To ensure a good fit for the male members of the wedding party, it is critical to choose a reputable formalwear dealer.
Tips for Finding the Perfect Tux
- Work with a specialist to ensure that your tuxedo styles make all of the men in the wedding party look their best AND coordinate with the rest of the bridal party.
- The groom or best man should take an active role in ensuring that all members of the wedding party get in to be fitted well in advance of the wedding date.
How Should a Suit Jacket Fit
- You should be able to fit your hand between your chest and the front of the jacket when it is buttoned.
- The back vent(s) should lie flat.
- The coat should allow free movement of the arms.
- Armholes should not be snug.
- The jacket should fall smoothly across the back and should not bunch up across the shoulders when the arms move forward.
- The bottom of the jacket should reach the curl of the fingers when the arms are held straight down at the sides.
- Your shirt cuff should show one inch below your jacket.
How Should Suit Pants Fit
- Your suit pants should sit comfortably at the waist allowing the width of one finger inside the waistband.
- Pants should be hemmed so that they barely break as they rest on top of the shoes.
- They should fall smoothly in the back to just the top of the heel of the shoes (most formal trousers are not cuffed).
- Make sure the chosen silhouette will work comfortably for all attendants.
How to Wear a Suit Vest
- Your vest should button comfortably across the chest.
- Vest buttons should line up with the front of the jacket.
- Your vest should overlap the waistband on the trousers.
