It doesn’t happen every day, but when it does, people remember. If you are a dog lover and want to include your pet in your wedding ceremony, you are not alone. When our consultants are asked about how to include this furry best friend in their wedding day plans, they offered some great tips. They sympathize with the owner’s desire to have their dog in their wedding party but caution about allowing the pet’s presence to upstage the event.
5 Tips for Including Your Dog In Your Wedding
If you or your loved one are a serious pet owner who wishes to incorporate your pet into the wedding, here are some ideas for you.
- Your dog needs to practice walking down the aisle as much as (maybe more) human members of the party and should be a party of the wedding rehearsal. He/she needs to be well trained to walk, sit and stay at the site. Use a leash or at least keep one close by.
- Consider how your dog acts around large groups of people and he/she is a barker. If so, you might want to reconsider having him/her sitting right next to you so you’re not competing with your pet to be heard during your vows.
- Be sure to include him/her in your photos. Make sure your photographer knows about this additional member of the wedding party and share any picture ideas that you’d like to try.
- Appoint another dog lover whom the dog knows, to be in charge of your pet. Be sure they are equipped with treats and “clean up” bags.
- Be sure to get the officiant’s prior approval.
