Congrats, you’re engaged! Feeling happy? Stressed? Wedding planning stress can be very real for some brides. It happens with you have many decisions to make about the ceremony and reception locations, what to wear, what to serve, who should be your attendants, how much your wedding will cost, what is our theme, and more! All of these decisions and more can generate a case of “wedding jitters.”
To relieve your wedding stress, or at least make it more manageable, consider these key points.
Tips for Dealing With Wedding Planning Stress
- If Your Stress is Caused by Money – Make sure that as a couple you discuss and determine your priorities. List the things that are most important to you both about the upcoming wedding and pick the top five items. These are the items on which you are least likely to compromise. Then, look at the funds that are available and make adjustments where necessary to make these five areas happen.
- If Your Stress is Caused by Family – Be clear about what is stressing you out. Talk out the stressful issues that you see with parents, friends and those involved. Be gracious but firm about expressing your views, concerns and feelings. Don’t just “stuff” the feelings so they end up causing permanent estrangement.
- If Your Stress is Coming From Feeling Overwhelmed – If the stress is coming from the crush of events, share the responsibilities. Hire a wedding planner, enlist the groom, ask your parents to take over specific jobs., and enlist your maid of honor or other relatives who have offered to help. Invest in a wedding planning book and be diligent about entering plans made, set dates and keep up with your budget status.
Overall, remember to get enough sleep, take care of your health, and make use of that gym membership to exercise the stress away!
